Big Ideas Bring Big Opposition

The larger the scope of your ideas, initiatives and concepts, the larger the resulting consequences may be, leading to greater opposition.  Some people may not fully understand your vision, may have competing ideas that conflict with yours or simple are resistant to change – even when it is positive. This is why it is critical to communicate your vision and socialize your ideas to the appropriate constituents and at the appropriate times.

Despite doing everything correctly in some circumstances, you will still run into three types of people; those that do not understand, those who are stuck in an antiquated school of thought, and those who have their own agenda. While those who have their own agenda can be fair competition at times, there are occasions where these individuals are excessively self-serving and their visions do not serve the greater good.

As cliché as this sounds, in order to persevere, it is as simple as continuing to put one foot in front of the other and getting up every time someone tries to or successfully knocks you down.

Next to nothing of great consequence came without adversity, opposition and struggle. It is true today, it was true 500 years ago, and it will be 5,000 years in the future. It does not matter whether we are referring to a social movement, science, a business or any other type of innovation. Large accomplishments and industry leaders all face the same hurdles. Innovators and market disruptors often achieve the greatest of all accomplishments. But not without a cost, sacrifice and tenacious perseverance.

These all take the same amount of determination and persistence to succeed as well as patience – as it can take years to reach a breakthrough.
